Originally from Washington, D.C., Jin Bang has spent over two decades shaping the hair industry on an international scale. Early Career and Education
Jin Bang’s journey began in 1998 at just 14 years old, when he was scouted and selected as an apprentice at Pr @Partners under master colorist Michael Handsinger and renowned London stylist Sean Stredwick (TIGI North America). This early exposure to world-class talent set the foundation for his technical expertise. He further refined his skills by training with Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy Concepts, mastering precision cutting, advanced color techniques, and runway styling.
By 2002, Jin’s talent for education was recognized, and he began teaching academy-based seminars for Pr @Partners and later for Bumble & Bumble, traveling extensively across the Washington, D.C., and Northeast regions of the United States. During this period, he participated in major fashion events and educational shows across the U.K., Paris, Barcelona, Seoul, Tokyo, Mexico City, Amsterdam, and Buenos Aires, building a diverse portfolio of work.
Expanding Influence – Privé & Celebrity Styling
In 2005, Jin was recruited by Laurent Dufourg & Franck Izquierdo (IGK Hair) a legendary stylist from Jose Eber and Privé Salons in Los Angeles, to join the Privé Products team as a lead educator. This position propelled him onto an even larger stage, allowing him to travel coast to coast, teaching advanced hair techniques and working with A-list celebrities, musicians, and fashion icons. Balayage, Natural Beauty, and Industry Innovation
Jin left Privé in 2010 to partner at Shades Natural Color Studio alongside industry leader Philip Wolff, where he mastered the art of Balayage using Kemon Color, one of the finest natural color systems available. His expertise in color placement, highlighting, and natural dimension solidified his reputation as a go-to artist for effortless, sun-kissed color.
During this time, Jeff Orrell, Senior VP of NEUMA Beauty, recruited Jin to help spearhead the first USDA NOP-certified natural styling line for the professional beauty industry. His work with NEUMA Beauty focused on sustainability and performance-driven haircare, pushing the boundaries of clean beauty in professional salons.
Runway & Latin American Expansion
In 2013, industry icon Tabatha Coffey hand-selected Jin to be part of the styling team for her new brand LUXHAIR. At ABS Chicago, Jin and his team presented a fashion runway collection that wowed the industry, winning Best Runway of ABS Chicago 2013.
Following this, Jin expanded into Latin America, consulting for JOSS CLAUDE, an ultra-luxurious salon concept in Mexico City. His work brought him into editorial styling and runway collaborations with major international publications, including:
Smashbox Cosmetics & Living Proof Academy
Jin was later recruited by Living Proof Academy as part of their International Education Team, where he introduced advanced haircutting and styling systems. Additionally, he served as Director of Education for Enso Tools (Cocco Hair Pro, FHI Heat), working with the industry’s top hairstylists to improve tool technology and technique.
In 2014, Jin was approached by Lori Taylor Davis (Smashbox Cosmetics) and Davis Factor (founder of Smashbox Studios & Smashbox Cosmetics, Estée Lauder) to serve as Lead Hair Stylist for Smashbox. Over the next seven years, Jin led makeup campaigns, editorial fashion shoots, and beauty brand launches, further solidifying his expertise in high-fashion hairstyling.
Tool Industry & Textured Hair Education
By 2018, Jin expanded his influence into the tool industry, aligning himself with Bronner Brothers, Design Essentials, Patrick Bradley, Tippi Shorter (Mizani), and Keya Neal (Textured vs. Race) to revolutionize textured hair education. His work with shears, blow dryers, and flat irons from Korea helped bridge the gap between diverse hair types and professional styling tools.
As a nod to his East Coast roots, Jin also partnered with TIGI Cosmetology Schools North America to improve curriculums and education for the next generation of hairstylists.
